Discover Pumpkin Patches: 6 Spectacular Fall Farm Activities

Posted on 09/06/2024 by Emily Kuth

Pumpkins are one of the most iconic symbols of fall, and there is nothing better than some front porch pumpkins to add a little fall flair. Pumpkin carving is also a great way to get into the seasonal spirit, and roasting their seeds yields with a bit of sea salt makes for a delicious fall treat. Whether you are looking for pumpkins to decorate, carve, or both, this blog will take you across the region to the best pumpkin patches, so you are guaranteed to have a great time and get some awesome pumpkins and gourds.

Pumpkin Blossom Hill - Red Bud

The Robinson family began when husband and wife, Doc and Diana, married in 1968. When the couple hit their two-year mark of marriage, Diana decided to become a full-time housewife and farmwife after they had two children. It was time to focus on raising the kids and family. The town of Redbud, where they live, gradually started to grow. Luckily for the Robinson family, they still had their farm, which has continued to allow them to live the country lifestyle they’d come to know and love. As the kids got older, Mr. and Mrs. Robinson wanted to instill good values and work ethics in their children. As a result, they decided to start their own business: a pumpkin patch. Before they knew it, seeds were planted in their fields, pumpkins were growing, and people were stopping by asking if they could buy some! The family loved the idea that their pumpkins would be on families’ doorsteps and admired by passing neighbors.

The Robinsons didn’t let their success stop with a successful pumpkin farm, they’ve also added attractions to the grounds such as a playground area with a corn pit, four slides, picnic tables, a tractor playground, a yellow submarine, and a four-car train to keep kids entertained for a few hours. The farm also has a refreshment station that offers tasty snacks like kettle corn, soda, bottled water, and ice cream bars. For those who would like to bring home more than pumpkins, there is also a shop that sells crafts, antiques, décor items, and many homemade gifts for all seasons.

Braeutigam Orchards - Belleville IL

Braeutigam Orchards has been run by the same family for eight generations, though it did not start raising fruit until 1935. The farm is currently owned and operated by the 6th and 7th generations of the family. From the 7th generation, Kurt Range resides on the farm with his three children in the home that Kurt's parents, Tom and Pat, built on the Braeutigam Orchards property.

The farm offers a delightful variety of fruits, with apples being a highlight, especially during the summer and fall months. Starting the third weekend in September through the end of October, visitors can also pick their own pumpkins, adding to the charm of the fall season at the orchard. In addition to apples and pumpkins, the farm market on the property sells a diverse array of squash and gourds, perfect for autumn decorating and cooking. Braeutigam Orchards is not just a place to buy fresh produce; it is a living piece of family history and tradition where visitors can experience the warmth and dedication of a family that has nurtured the land for nearly two centuries. With the picturesque setting and a wide variety of seasonal offerings, Braeutigam Orchards continues to be a cherished destination for both locals and visitors alike, providing a perfect blend of history, agriculture, and family-friendly activities.

They moved onto the farm, combining Ryan's love of pumpkins and creativity with Lindsay’s passion for teaching and family wellness. It was destiny for the Lash family to turn this farm into a thriving pumpkin patch. After their first pumpkin patch season, Ryan and Lindsay were hooked on the labor of love it takes to grow these falltime fruits.
