Hamilton County State Fish and Wildlife Area, also known as Dolan Lake, is located about 8 miles southeast of McLeansboro off Route 14. Dolan Lake is the main attraction of the park. The earthen dam was constructed in 1962 and the lake was filled shortly thereafter. The 75-acre lake has 3 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth of 18 feet. The lake contains largemouth bass, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, channel catfish and bullheads. A launching ramp is available. Motors are limited to 10 HP. Within the 1,683-acre Illinois state park are picnic areas with tables, outdoor stoves, and drinking water. Horseback and hiking trails and playground equipment are available. And, from April 1 to October 31, a concession stand operates from inside the park. A total of 60 electric tent and trailer sites and 10 primitive sites are available for overnight stays.
