I absolutely love this town I get to call HOME. One of my favorite childhood memories of growing up in Waterloo were the Saturdays when I stayed at Grandma’s house while my mom ran her downtown business, “The Fabric Center”. Grandma would give each of us grandkids a little pocket change ($2 could go a little further back in the day) and we’d head out, me on my hand-me-down purple banana bike, to the downtown business district to “shop” and spend our newly acquired wealth.

We’d stop at just about every retail business: Ben Franklin, Oaks Variety, Paul’s Dry Goods, Gambles, and of course Ahne’s – for a jelly doughnut. We mostly window shopped, but that didn’t stop us from seeing if the stores had any new merchandise that might pique the interest of a 10 year-old future shopaholic. We had so much fun on those days!

My goal with the Waterloo Mercantile is to recreate the shopping experiences of my childhood by offering lovingly hand selected products in our store.
