The Kaskaskia Bell State Memorial is home to the Kaskaskia Bell. France's King Louis XV gifted the 140-pound bell to the Catholic Church of New France following its casting in La Rochelle, France in 1741. The bell run in celebration after George Rogers Clark took Kaskaskia from the British on July 4, 1778. Since then, it has become known as the Liberty Bell of the West.
